Ideas for kids

A wonderful site for kids is:
http://www.kids-idea.com/ja/index.html which has both the Japanese and English versions of the site available. It includes lots of ideas (hence the name!), downloadable pictures, instructions etc. Instructions are bilingual so easy to use. The two pictures here are both from the site so you can get an idea as to what is available.

Get your kids to look at the English version. The content is all safe and easy to understand and use.

Accommodation and other info

A couple of terrific sites I stumbled over. One is BuddyCom which has lots of info and links and Japan and related things as well as a couple of other countries like India and Nepal. There ae LOADS of photos. http://www.buddycom.com/

The other is a site called Housing Japan which is a searchable database of apartments etc in Tokyo. It is updated constantly with the latest accommodation and has floor plans, photos of the various rooms, price, size and all the other relevant information. It is extremely well put together and comprehensive. Although it's in English, the information could easily be used for many activities in the classroom. http://www.housingjapan.net/eng/index.shtml

Another Tokyo accommodation site although not as comprehensive, easy to use or 'flashy' as the one above is http://www.sihm.co.jp/index.html the SIHM Inc site.

Accent sound files

Trying to teach students (or yourself) the difference between ima (now) and ima (lounge) and other words? The site: http://sp.cis.iwate-u.ac.jp/sp/lesson/j/doc/accentl.html provides sound files in the page with pronunciation. It's from the Introduction to Japanese Language for Nihongo Learning with Speech and there are plenty of other sounds, words, dictation quizzes and links. If you haven't already seen this site it is definately worth a look. It isn't very attractive but the content is terrific.
